EAA

EAA president Hansjorg Wirz declared the Birmingham champs as the best European Indoors ever. The council awarded on Monday future events. As reported already 2009 U22 European Champs will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania. The other candidate Ostrava (CZE) got the right to stage it in 2011. Serbian city Novi Sad will host the European Junior Champs in 2009. Nancy in France will host the European Cup Super League on June 21-22 in 2008. Atletiek.nl reports there are three candidates for European Indoor Champs 2011 – Apeldoorn (NED), Paris and Goteborg. Also on Monday in Birmingham the Athletes Commission of EAA met under the chairpersons Stefan Holm and Mikaela Ingberg. The group supported all the latest measures announced by EAA and Euromeetings in fight against doping.

IAAF

The world governing body announced new TV deals in Asia/Pacific for World Athletics Series events (all the championships and cups) for 2007-2009. Namely in China, South Korea and New Zealand.

IAAF also published the latest directory of Athletes Representatives. They are in total 144 representing most of the top athletes in the world.

IAAF World Athletics Tour working group is proposing to IAAF Council which will meet later this month in Mombasa that the Area Permit Meet in New York will be part of the tour in category Grand Prix. Under consideration was also the best EAA Meet from last years in Rethymno, Greece but as the meet director Evangelo Meligounakis says the stadium has not enough capacity.

Winter throws


European countries staged Winter Throwing championships over the weekend to test their athletes for European Challenge to be held in Yalta, Ukraine this month.

Indoor notes

AMES: At oversized track a fast 400 m was registered by Jonathan Fortenberry who clocked 45.67.

MOGILYOV (BLR): During junior match BLR-UKR-RUS-LAT Oleksandr Nartov still as a junior from Ukraine joined the exclusive 230 cm club in high jump.

VITTEL (FRA): Junior three countries match was won by France only by 2 points before Germany, third place for Italy. The win was secured by French girls, they got 92 points as Germany had 88, in the boys section Germany was better by 2 points then the host team.

New Zealand Champs

INGLEWOOD: 1997 discus world champion Beatrice Faumuina got ther 14th discus national title with 60.71 m.

Pensacola News Journal is reporting about coaching activities by Justin Gatlin. He is helping the athletes of his former school Woodham. During the last weekend even a competition called Running Wild/Justin Gatlin Invitational was held.
