Lalova back in training

SOFIA: Bulgarian sprint talent Ivet Lalova is back in training and hopes to be in shape for summer season. She did not competed indoors, but took part at the EAA Athletes Commission meeting in Birmingham. „Yes I m back and hope to be again fast,“she said. She shocked the world with 10.77 in 2004 in Plovdiv at European Cup 1st League. Her last competitive race was in Ostrava, Czech Republic where she in 2005 achieved new meet record 11.03 in rain and cold. Three days later she won 200 m race in Ulm, Germany clocking 23.12 and then she had the accident while warming-up in Athens, Greece. In 2005 she won European Indoor Champs 2005 at 200 m (the last title at this distance) and was olympic finalist 2004 at 100 and 200 m.

V. Campbell is also back

TUCSON: Another great sprinter is also back in training. Olympic 200 m champion 2004 Veronica Campbell from Jamaica hopes again for fast times, mainly at World Championships in Osaka. Her agent Claude Bryan confirmed she should ran a leg at 4x400 m relay this month at one of the college events in Arizona. She suffered an injury last year in Gateshead.

Yepishin looking forward to summer

MOSCOW: Russian media are reporting that last years World Indoor and European Outdoor silver medallist Andrey Yepishin is looking forward to the summer. His first competition should be end of May at European Clubs Cup in Portugal where he will compete for his club LUCH Moscow. „I was not concentrating on indoor, last season was very tough and demanding, so I decided to skip it,“ he explained after he raced only once in winter, beeing second early January in Moscow at 60 m (6.77).

Dubnova still high

VALASKE MEZIRICI (CZE, Mar 10): At last Czech HJ meet with music of the season national champion Romana Dubnova shined. She bettered the meet record to 192 and tried for 194. Danisova goes 69.22 m

COOLIDGE (USA, Arizona Relays): Slovak hammer record holder Martina Danisova is having a training camp in Arizona, her brother Branislav is top thrower at Central Arizona College. She competed last weekend and achieved solid 69.22 m, just 28 cm shy of Osaka World Champs standard. She is scheduled to compete also next weekend at Willie Williams Classic in Tucson. She had in her career only 4 better competitions, her national record from last year is 73.84.

IAAF – Anti-doping

MONTE CARLO: IAAF on its website confirmed five latest doping violations. Two year ban´s were recieved by Venezuelan long jump record holder Victor Castillo (834, South American Champion 2003) who failed an out-of-competition test and is not able to compete until June 13, 2008. His countrymate Candy Rincon a runner (best 4:26:30 at 1500 m) is banned until Aug 5, 2008. Argentinian discus thrower Marcelo Pugliese (best of 64.23) will lost his silver medal from last years Iberoamerican Champs and is banned until July 28, 2008. South African distance runner Zolani Ntongana (HM best 63:03) is stopped until Nov 7, 2008, he was positive in October at one of the road races at home. Canadian hurdler Robert Charbonneau (7.80/14.03) got a public warning after he tested positive for Cannabis at Canadian Championships last august.
