YALTA: For this weekend Winter Throwing European Cup in Yalta the home team of Ukraine is headed by 2004 Olympic champion in Shot Put Yuri Bilonog. Also in the team olympic games finalist Olena Antonova in discus and succesfull juniors from last year Vera Rebrik (silver in Beijing in javelin) and Roman Avramenko (bronze in Beijing also in javelin). Germany is sending 20 throwers and in the team the discus world champion Franka Dietzsch and javelin European champion Steffi Nerius. Greece is sending five athletes, the best is former european hammer medallist Alexandros Papadimitriou. Latvia is sending 3 athletes, among them top javelin thrower Ainars Kovals who achieved early march 78.60 m.

ATHENS: Good informed source are saying that former olympic winner and world champion Konstantinos Kenteris is back in full training. His plans are not clear for the moment, there is a possibility this his distance for comeback will be the 100 m. As close observers are saying he will not compete against high quality athletes unless he is in top shape. The date of his come-back remains unknown. The 33 years old athlete has a 100 m best of 10.15 in 2001.

SANTIAGO DE CUBA: As Javier Sotomayor (now team manager of Cuban athletes) informs the best result at the throwing championships was achieved by javelin thrower Guillermo Martinez with 83.84 m. As IAAF informs further area record holder Yipsi Moreno continues in good shape and registered 73.25 in hammer. Third Cuban over 8000 points in decathlon was Leonel Suarez with 8185 points. It is expected that Cuban athletes will arrive to Europe end of May and compete at the meetings with their base beeing in Spain.

DARMSTADT: Discus hero Lars Riedel got a warning from German Athletics Federation because of a missed doping control. As www.leichtathletik.de informs he was not at announced please while out-of-competition testers arrived. He went to university for a lesson. But according to the rules it was classified as missed test. An athlete after three such a missings gets the classical 2 years ban.

LAUSANNE: EAA informs about more details form Athletes Commission meeting in Birmingham. Athletes urged the need for more sponsorship possibilities for example on clothing and also with using free spaces in the stadium. They are supporting more liberal advertising regulations. They also want that number of non-european athletes at european meetings shall be regulated.

MADRID: Spain is sending to World CC in Mombasa 19 athletes – three teams and only individuals in junior girls. The most anticipated men team is composed by: Jose Luis Blanco, Carles Castillejo, Ivan Hierro, Antonio Jimenez, Eliseo Martin and Jose Rios.
