Rotation of continents was the decisive moment

MOMBASA: Russian Federation president Valentin Balakhnichev said for the agency Ves Sport (All Sport) that the most important factor in the vote of 25 IAAF Council Members was the rotation of continents factor. After Europe (Berlin 2009) another continent came in and that was Asia with Daegu. For 2013 three cities remained and Moscow was the winner. Balakhnichev admitted that 2011 was the goal of Russian Capitol, but they are also happy with hosting the 2013 edition. Pole Vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva who was part of the delegation again confirmed that she wants to finish the career after London Olympics in 2012 and so will miss the Moscow Championships.

Brisbane from Australia (this continent never so far hosted the championships) and Barcelona, Spain remained without success. But as IAAF President Lamine Diack per IAAF website said: „I am convinced that each of these cities is more than capable of hosting excellent editions of our World Championships, but in every competition we have to have winners and losers. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each bidding city for becoming a candidate city for the 2011 and 2013 World Championships in Athletics – the IAAF’s most important competition.”

It remains open whether Brisbane will bid again in near future, but Barcelona through a press release said that they might consider future bids for World Championships.

Bob Ramsak reports for Race Results Weekly that Mayor of Daegu was marketing director at Seoul Olympic. Kim Bum-Il admitted for the media afterwards that the biggest challenge facing his city will also be their primary goal, which is to create "a new athletics culture in the emerging countries."

MOMBASA: On Monday at the end of IAAF Council session it was reported that 143 proposals to amend IAAF Competition Rules were studied and will be sent to each national federation in May, three months before the August IAAF Congress. But one new rule was approved, which prohibits use of any technical device or other element which can provide the user with an advantage. This could also apply to the South African runner Oscar Pistorius who is running with artificial legs and was recently second at South African Championships achieving a sub 47 seconds time.
