Trammell starts in Doha

ATLANTA: Last years world indoor hurdles champion Terrence Trammell was not running indoors, but is in full preparation for the summer season. His agent and sister Kimberly Holland said: „He needed the rest because he did in last years in and out competitions. He enjoyed it and now already thinks at summer. He will run the relays end of april and his first major hurdles race should be in Doha at IAAF Super Grand Prix Meet.“ Meanwhile other US top hurdler, the all-time great Allen Johnson changed his management. He switched from HSI to Tony Campbell. He returned to Campbell who helped him as his european career was starting in the first half of nineties.

Fazekas and Annus in full training

BUDAPEST: Competition comebacks are planned for Hungarian throwers Robert Fazekas (discus) and Adrian Annus (hammer). Both were banned for doping rules violations at 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. They trained normally since early 2006 to be ready for the return in 2007. Fazekas plans to start mid-may and Annus little bit later at some local meets. Afterwards they plan to compete at bigger meetings. The best of Fazekas is his NR 71.70 from 2002, he is also European Champion 2002 and silver medallist from World Championships 2003. Annus has same medals and his NR is 84.19 from 2003.

Bucher returns in May

ZURICH: Swiss federation website reports that former 800 m world champion (2001) Andre Bucher is back in training after last years injury. He spent 2,5 months in Australia and plans to compete again end of May, first at smaller meets. On the other hand swiss javelin record holder Stefan Muller has problems with his back and will not be able to train in next 4-6 weeks.

WINDHOEK: Namibian media are reporting that congress of national athletics federation planned for this week was postponed until April 21. It will be cheared by Africa Representative in the IAAF council Leonard Chuene who wants to achieve peace between different fractions in athletics in the country.

BEIJING: Xinhua news agency reports that Olympic 110 m Hurdles winner and world record holder Liu Xiang is included in the second edition of Encyclopedia of China, which will be published this year. The criterias to include personalities were described as „typical personalities with a great influence in their own field and also in history.“ The new 60-million-word edition of the encyclopedia has 32 volumes, 60,000 items, 30,000 pictures and 1,000 maps.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Polands track elite is currently in training in South Africa. Smaller group is in Stellenbosch, but the bigger one in Potchefstroom. Among them european medallists Marek Plawgo or Kamila Skolimowska. This week the group was joined by double european indoor champion Lidia Chojecka and other top runner Wioletta Janowska.

BIBERACH: New International meet was introduced for the southern part of Germany. „Weltklasse in Biberach“ will be staged on June 16 and has the same athletes liaison leadership as the events in Kassel, Dessau or Cuxhaven.

KAMPALA: Ugandan media are reporting that world class runner Docus Inzikuru has again problems with breathing after arriving home from Mombasa where she due to her health problems did not finished the race. The Commonwealth champion has allergy problems and hopes for more luck in the summer season.

XIAMEN (CHN): End of the week the AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Road Races) will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the 16th World Congress. Founded in 1982 in London now has 238 member races in 79 countries. It is expected that around 100 delegates from 50 events will arrive. Also elections will be held. After that on Saturday the Xiamen International Marathon will be staged.

SANTO DOMINGO (DOM): National long jump record holder Carlos Jorge (796 last year) remains in doubt. He had positive doping test last year at Central and Caribbean Games. The result came from A-test, B was never performed so all remains under question. If his violation will be confirmed he will be suspended for 2 years and not able to compete at Pan Am Games later in July in Rio de Janeiro. It is expected that Dominican Republic will send some 17 persons for athletics at the Games with the headliner Felix Sánchez, olympic champion at 400 m Hurdles.

FERRARA (ITA): Italy announced 10 names for the early April European 10 000 m Cup in Ferrari. In the team (5 men and 5 women) are medallists from Birmingham. The surprise champion at 3000 m Cosimo Caliandro for whom it will debut on track at the distance (he has 29:17 on the road) and bronze medal winner in women´s race Silvia Weissteiner with more career record in this event and a PB 32:09.26 last year in Goteborg at European Champs. Meanwhile Britain´s Goteborg silver medallist at 5000 m Mohamed Farah decided not to compete in Ferrara and instead concentrate on summer after tough Mombasa race (10th place as best European).

CARLSBAD (USA): The organisers of 5 km road race in Carlsbad announced that on Sunday April 1 the Ethiopean world record holder and olympic champion Meseret Defar will return. She wants to break her own World Best at this road distance from last year 14:46. IAAF is registering WR´s on road only starting with 10 km. She set also world indoor record this year at 3000 m. The event has prize money budget of 70 000 USD and in the past 16 world bests have been set.

DES MOINES: Agent Karen Locke confirms that leading US Pole Vaulter Derek Miles (34) is back and healthy again (stress fracture). He should compete at Drake Relays end of april. His bests are 585 indoor and 581 outdoor, both from 2005. He wants to stay competitive until 2008 and try to make the Olympic Team.
