Defar runs 2 miles in Carson

BOSTON (USA): Ethiopian 5000 m world record holder and Olympic Champion Meseret Defar will come back soon to US after her Sunday Carlsbad road win. As her agent Mark Wetmore confirmed she will return to run 2 miles at adidas Track Classic in Carson on May 19. It is clear that her target could be only the world best set by Regina Jacobs 9:11.97 back in 1999 in Los Gatos. This mark was achieved in mixed race so the real best is 9:19.56 by Sonia O´Sullivan in 1998 in Cork, Ireland. About her Sunday race Wetmore said: „She was telling me afterwards that the pace at first km was too quick, also wind played part of the game against a world best. Also she did not raced for a while and came from full training, but otherwise she was satisfied.“ He did not wanted to speculate when the long awaiting duel Defar against world champion Tirunesh Dibaba will happen again. „I do not know for the moment, maybe only in Osaka,“ he added. Tilastopaja shows the head-to-head balance in favour of Defar 12:10 at 5000 m since 2002 World Junior Champs, where Defar won the gold.
