BEOGRAD: The 20th jubilee Beograd Marathon witnessed in good conditions (16 degrees) the expected local win by European silver medallist in marathon Olivera Jevtic. This time the course record was not in danger (2:29:44 Cristina Pomacu,ROM, 2001). Her winning time was 2:35:46. The first place prize for her was 5000 E. It was her 11th marathon and actually the slowest also due to ankle injury as Pat Butcher reports for IAAF. Sub 2:40 times were achieved only by next two Russian runners Oksana Kuzmincheva (2:37:41) and Yelena Kozhevnikova (2:38:14). Pre race favourite Andrew Sambu from Tansania finished fourth (2:14:52) as he was beaten by three Kenyans. Last years fourth John Maluni won in new best 2:11:53 and missed by nearly exactly one minute the course record of Japhet Kosgei (2:10:54 last year). He also got 5000 E. Nicholas Chelimo was only 3 seconds behind with 2:11:56 (also new best) and third John Kioko achieved with 2:13:30 also new PB. Best European runner was Arkadiusz Sowa from Poland as 7th with 2:15:09 in his marathon debut. As the event website confirms two special guests of the event were long jump legends Bob Beamon and Mike Powell.

COLLEGE PARK: World fastest 200 m was registered in heats of Atlantic Coast Conference in Maryland. Walter Dix clocked 20.30 (+0.6) and more could come during Saturday finals. He opted only for the 200 m. In the 100 heats Travis Padgett achieved new meet record 10.21 (+0.9) and Jacoby Ford new PB as second fastest 10.23 (+1.1). Swiss sprinter Cedric Nabe made it with 10.49 also to the finals. Solid hurdles times in heats by Dominic Berger 13.65 (+0.5) at 110H and Shantia Moss with PB 13.08 (+1.4) at 100mH. British runner Andrew Lemoncello won the steeple in 8:36.48.

LAWRENCE: 80th Kansas Relays registered on Friday a clear shot win by US Champion Christian Cantwell with 20.88 m (also had 20.73 and 20.62 efforts). It was his first competition after return from Australia. Under sunny skies and with spring cool breeze Canadian record holder Scott Russell achieved 80+ mark for first time since 2005 (80.67 m). Kylene Wagner achieved 187 in High Jump and attacked the meet record of 190 cm. Top multieventers tried in individual events Austra Skujyte from Lithuania was second in shot put (16.24) and former world champion Tom Pappas dnf the 100 m heat. There was also a group of UK sprinters competing. Montell Douglas (11.65) and Donna Fraser (11.76, +2.1) advanced into the 100 m finals. The same in the 400 m for Emma Duck (53.59) and Fraser (54.27). 400 m European Indoor bronze medallist Robert Tobin clocked 10.70 (+1.3) in 100 m heats what is his PB.

EUGENE: Galen Rupp won solid 5000 m during first day of Oregon Invitational clocking 13:30.49. NCAA Champion Chris Solinsky was just 0.05 behind (13:30.54). Australian Peter Nowill won steeple in 8:33.61 and Denmark´s javelin record holder Christian Scherwin started the season throwing 56.89. Nicole Teter achieved 4:14.83 in easy 1500 m race and third from last year World Cup Kara Goucher registered very good 15:16.86 at 5000 m. Lauren Fleshman who competed early March in Australia was the next sub 15:30 with 15:25.92.

HONGKONG: Local sprinter Tang Yik Chun (20 years) will travel for olympic preparation to USA. He is scheduled as Xinhua reports to spend in California 1,5 years to get into the shape for Beijing Olympic Games 2008. His national junior records are 10.44 and 20.94 from 2005. He is also Asian indoor Games winner 2005 at 60 m.

VOLGOGRAD: Russian Long Jump Olympic Champion and Triple Jump European Champion Tatyana Lebedeva had visit in recent days. As part of IAAF Media Programme a group of reporters followed her during training and saw her environment where she lives.

INDIANAPOLIS: Fresh US 5000 m record holder Shalane Flanagan informed via USATF Teleconference that she is next looking for a local race in North Carolina. She is planning there to help with pace to her teammate Erin Donohue. Next 5000 m will be at US Nationals. Until then also a 1500 m race at Pre Classic in Eugene on June 10 is in the schedule.

HENGELO: A two metres bronze statue of Fanny Blankers Koen will be unveiled by famous Lord Sebastian Coe on May 9 in Hengelo.

SAO PAULO: As Mirko Jalava adds to EME NEWS from Apr 21 “Ibirapuera” in Brasil (Maggi 676 cm in Long Jump) is the name of the stadium in Sao Paulo. It is located in a huge park which also contains a convention center.
