Good international performances at the „Austrian Top4“ meeting in Ried

The final leg of the “Austrian Top4” meeting series on Friday 17th July in Ried produced some fine international performances.

The best result was achieved by US hurdler Jeff Porter who improved his personal best to 13.37 (-0.2) in the heats. He won the final with 13.48 (-0.5) ahead of his compatriots Tyrone Akins (13.60) and Kirkland Thornton (13.62).

In the Pole Vault Kelsie Hendry of Canada cleared 4.45m and thus bettered the A-Standard for the World Championships in Berlin. She beat Jillian Schwartz (USA) who needed two attempts more than Hendry to leap the same height. Croatian hammer thrower Andras Haklits, tenth in the Beijing Olympics, underlined his ambitions for Berlin. He achieved a new season best 76.23 meters and registered three other marks of 74.24 or further. Haklits defeated Jens Rautenkranz of Germany (73.63) and Austrian Benjamin Siart (69.88).

Australian Alwyn Jones, Bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games 2006, secured his spot at the World Championships with 16.67 (+0.6) in the Triple Jump. Korean record holder Soon Ok-Jung won the women’s Long Jump with 6.46 meters, just ahead of Norwegian Margrethe Renstrom with a personal best of 6.43. Having jumped already 6.76 meters this year, Ok-Jung currently trains in Austria together with a huge Korean national team to find the right shape for the World Championships.
